Case Study
Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA)
Our partner
As the world’s largest origin-and-destination airport, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) serves millions of travelers each year while operating on one of the smallest physical footprints among major global airports. Its close proximity to surrounding neighborhoods means that aircraft operations directly impact thousands of nearby residents through aircraft noise.
To address these impacts, LAX, in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), launched a multi-million-dollar Residential Sound Insulation Program designed to reduce interior aircraft noise for homes located within eligible noise contours. The multi-year initiative provides sound attenuation improvements that enhance residents’ quality of life while supporting the airport’s long-term operational needs.
How we helped
Daley Strategies is a member of the project team delivering this program. Our firm’s responsibilities include stakeholder engagement, government relations, strategic communications, and public outreach to support implementation, foster community understanding, and maintain productive relationships with residents, neighborhood organizations, elected officials, and other key stakeholders throughout the duration of the program.
Highlights
Since the program’s 2022 relaunch, over 700 homes have moved through construction, with improvements including acoustically rated windows and doors and enhanced ventilation systems designed to reduce interior aircraft noise by at least five decibels. This $143 million investment makes this the largest program of its kind in the United States.
